Produced between 1938 and 1943, Anchor Hawking’s Manhattan is depression glass that doesn’t look like depression glass: it’s heavy instead of delicate, there’s no fancy edges or flowers, and it came primarily in clear crystal instead of colors. Created in a full range of plates, bowls and serving pieces, Manhattan is noted for its series of concentric circles, Art Deco winged handles, and many pieces have decorative bubble feet. Recognizing that Manhattan transcends any specific design style, in 1987 Anchor Hawking purposefully produced a look-a-like line called Park Avenue.
